Savasana Study: The Practice of Resting in Awareness

What if the most powerful pose in your yoga practice is the one in which you do the least?

Savasana is often treated as the final few minutes of a yoga class—a chance to lie down before heading back into the demands of daily life. But this deceptively simple pose offers an opportunity to experience something much deeper: the art of resting while remaining present and aware.

In this two-hour workshop, we’ll explore savasana as a practice in its own right. Through guided rest, self-inquiry, and discussion, we’ll investigate what it means to truly relax, why stillness and silence can sometimes feel uncomfortable, and how our cultural attitudes toward productivity influence our ability to rest.

You’ll learn practical ways to support a deeper savasana, including positioning, props, warmth, and creating an environment that encourages the nervous system to settle. You'll experience five different savasana positions. You’ll also explore the difference between physical relaxation and the quieter experience of no longer being caught up in every thought and feeling.

This is an invitation to let go of expectations, release the need to make something happen, and discover what becomes possible when you allow yourself simply to be.

Come curious. Leave with a deeper understanding of rest—and practical tools for bringing more stillness, ease, and presence into your yoga practice and everyday life.

No prior experience with meditation or restorative yoga is necessary. All levels are welcome.
