February at Main Street Yoga!

It’s (finally) February!! (Did January seem inordinately long to you too?) And while it is still winter, things are heating up at the studio (especially now that the furnace is running again). If you’re having trouble keeping up with all the new offerings, click here to get a printable weekly schedule.

Here’s what’s new this month (in order of appearance) . . .

Introducing “Free-for-All Fridays!” Why “free-for-all?” Two reasons:

1.    Fridays are free! Okay, they’re donation-based, which means that you can pay what you want OR pay nothing at all.

2.    You never know what you’re going to get. Fridays will feature different classes taught by different teachers at different times of the day. For example, this Friday, February 4th at 4pm, I’ll be teaching “Relax and Release” – a blend of restorative, yin, and myofascial release designed to help you let go of stored tension in the body - and next Friday, February 11th at 6pm, Paula will be teaching “Try Tripods” – a fun (and safe) exploration of tripod headstands. See? You just never know. (Actually, you will know if you look at our online calendar.)

Speaking of our online calendar, did you know that if you click on the name of a class, a new window will open that gives you a description of the class, included who’s teaching it? It’s true! Give it a try.

On to our next new offering . . .

I am so honored to have Ryan Kurczak back in the studio! Ryan is an international meditation teacher in the Kriya Yoga Tradition. He has authored several books on meditation and spirituality and hosts “The Kriya Yoga Podcast.” Beginning February 15th, Ryan is offering an eight-week donation-based series: “Kriya Yoga Meditation Training Sessions.” These 45-minute experiential sessions will start with a brief explanation of the meditation techniques that you’ll use during the session, then Ryan will guide you through thirty minutes of meditation. You can register to attend in person or online, but do so quickly – Ryan announced the class in his newsletter last week, and over half the online spots are already taken!

We also have one very special event at the end of the month – “Spa Renewal” – a fantastic two-hour combination of somatics, restorative postures, reiki, essential oils, and spa treatments (including massage and warm stones) that will leave you feeling totally balanced and blissed-out. There’s so much going on at this event that it’s going to take three people to pull it off – Jessica Stidham, Paula Hatten, and Courtney Dicken. Obviously, this will only be offered in the studio and space is limited, so claim your spot now!

February is a short month, so I have one more “save the date” for you that crosses over into March. On Saturday, March 5th, MSY will host an “open house” with free classes, demos, giveaways, and other fun stuff. Our goal for this event is to re-introduce ourselves to Fairmont because – believe it or not – there are still people out there who don’t know we exist. So please help us spread the word, or, better yet, show up with a friend who hasn’t been to our little studio yet!

Finally, before I go, I want to remind you that you have until February 14th to save $250 on yoga teacher training at MSY. If you’re interested in learning to teach yoga – or simply interested in deepening your understanding of and practice of yoga – contact me or fill out the application. If you know someone else who might be interested, pass the info along to them.

That’s it for now! Stay warm and centered.
