Sunday Serenity at Main Street Yoga

A long, long time ago (or at least so it seems), Sunday evenings at Main Street Yoga were my favorite time to teach. I offered yin yoga and restorative yoga on alternating Sundays. This time of year, when the sun was setting before class began, was the best. The studio was dimly lit and a little warmer than usual. As students arrived, I could almost see worries and tension falling away from each them.

We had a wonderful group of regular students who got to know each other. They would quietly chat before class began, asking one another about their week, how this project was going, how that family member was doing. And then when class began and they settled in, it was as if each of them cocooned themselves in a bubble of silent serenity. For them, and me, the Sunday evening class was like pressing a reset button - it was the perfect end to the week behind and the perfect beginning to the week ahead.

As you can tell, I've been missing Sunday evenings at the studio. As often as I can, I attend Erin's yin yoga class or Lauri's qigong class, and since Lauri is out of town this weekend and I don't know how to teach qigong yet, I decided to offer a special 90-minute candlelit restorative yoga class at 6pm (so I can go to Erin's yin class beforehand!). I hope you'll join me and treat yourself to some extra special downtime before the madness of the holiday season kicks into full gear.

If you're not familiar with restorative yoga (which I affectionately call "advanced napping"), it's all about relaxation! Most (if not all) of the poses in a restorative class are done while seated or lying on the floor. The body is fully supported by bolsters, blankets and blocks so that there is no effort or stress on the body. Full support encourages complete relaxation of the muscles and has a powerfully calming effect on the nervous system.

Space is limited, so claim your spot now.  (You can use your class pass, if you have one!) If all goes well, I may continue to offer it throughout the holiday season to help keep us all grounded and centered through a wonderfully hectic time.

See you at the studio!
Angela
